FAQ

1. Ordering & Availability

How can I purchase your work?
All finished knives are listed in The Collection. I operate on a “first-come, first-served” basis. To remain fair to all collectors, I do not offer reservations or pre-orders without payment.

Do you accept custom commissions?
I accept a limited number of bespoke orders that align with my focus on traditional European folders. If you have a project in mind, please reach out to discuss the details. Note that I do not produce modern “tactical” or industrial-style knives.

2. Technical Standards

What is the “Cran Forcé” mechanism?
It is a reinforced, notched slipjoint tradition primarily found in high-end French cutlery. It provides a robust, secure feel without a mechanical lock. I favor this for its historical reliability and manual soul.

Why do you avoid CNC and automation?
I believe the term “custom” should imply total manual control. By performing 100% of the grinding, fitting, and heat treatment myself, I ensure that every knife has the unique character that only hand-tooling can provide. For more on my methods, see The Maker page.

How should I maintain the blade?
High-carbon steels will develop a natural patina—this is a signature of use, not a defect. Keep the blade dry and oil it occasionally. I strongly advise against disassembly, as these precision-tuned mechanisms are best serviced in my studio.

3. Shipping & Legal

How is Age Verification handled?
I ship worldwide via UPS with Mandatory Adult Signature. You must be prepared to show valid government ID to the courier. I will not ship to minors under any circumstances.

Is the knife legal in my area?
Knife laws vary significantly by region. It is your responsibility to confirm that the blade and mechanism are legal in your jurisdiction before ordering. For strictly regulated areas, please consult my LegalCarryKnives project.

Can you lower the value for customs?
No. To ensure full insurance coverage for your acquisition, the parcel must be declared at its true value. This protects your investment in case of loss or damage during international transit.

4. Academic Background

Where can I find your research on arms history?
My academic work informs every knife I build. You can access my peer-reviewed papers and monographs on my Academia.edu profile.
